The Courage to Begin

One of the greatest acts of bravery is not climbing mountains, starting businesses, or standing before crowds.

Sometimes the greatest act of bravery is simply saying "yes" to what God has placed on your heart.

Many of us spend years waiting for certainty before we begin.

We wait until we feel ready. We wait until we have enough money. We wait until we have all the answers. We wait until the fear disappears.

Yet faith rarely works that way.

More often than not, God asks us to take the first step before revealing the entire path.

I am reminded of a season in my own life today when I resigned from a position without a Plan B. It was one of the most uncomfortable decisions I had ever made. There was uncertainty, fear, and countless questions. Yet within the same month, an opportunity far greater than I could have imagined quite literally landed on my lap.

That experience taught me something I have never forgotten: courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is moving forward despite it.

Sometimes we know exactly what God is calling us to do.

To start the business, to write the book, to pursue the dream, to change direction, to forgive, to heal, to serve, to step into purpose.

The challenge is rarely hearing the call. The challenge is finding the courage to answer it.

But bravery is not only about pursuing purpose, it is also about learning to be present.

In a world obsessed with the next achievement, the next goal, and the next destination, we can easily overlook the blessings already surrounding us:

The people who love us.

The family gathered around our tables. Our parents who spend sleepless nights praying for us

The friends who walk beside us.

The opportunities we once prayed for.

The provisions we now take for granted.

Life has a way of reminding us that none of these things are guaranteed nor permanent.

The older I become, the more I realise that success means very little if we fail to appreciate the people sharing the journey with us.

Be present.

Put down the phone.

Have the conversation.

Make the call.

Spend the time.

Create the memory.

One day, these moments will become treasures.

Perhaps one of the bravest things we can do is to become honest with ourselves.

Not the version of ourselves we present to the world.

The real version.

The one who knows where improvement is needed.

The one who knows where fear is holding us back.

The one who knows which excuses have become comfortable.

Growth begins where honesty begins.

It takes courage to acknowledge our weaknesses.

It takes courage to confront our habits.

It takes courage to admit when we are unhappy, unfulfilled, distracted, or living beneath our potential.

But self-awareness is not about criticism.

It is about freedom.

When we become honest with ourselves, we create space for growth.

We create space for healing.

We create space for God to shape us into who He created us to be.

As we move through this season, may we have the courage to begin.

May we have the wisdom to appreciate what we already have.

May we cherish the people who make life meaningful.

May we remain present in the moments that matter.

And may we have the honesty to continually grow into better versions of ourselves.

After all, the life God has called us to live is not found in comfort.

It is found on the other side of courage.

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." — 2 Timothy 1:7
